Revive the Northern Rivers – officially a partner of the UN Restoration Decade
We’re pretty stoked to announce that after being approached by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), Revive the Northern Rivers is now an official partner of the United Nations (UN) Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. As an Actor, we join a collective of small organisations across the world trying to address ecosystem degradation and the loss of biodiversity. The RTNR logo will be featured on the Restoration Decade website in their digital hub and we have the opportunity to share stories beyond our little pocket of the world.
The UN Restoration Decade takes place from 2021-2030 and is a global movement that was created to “prevent, halt, and reverse the degradation of ecosystems worldwide”.
Tim Chistophersen, who coordinates the UN Restoration Decade Program, had this to say:
“To some, a decade may sound like a long time. But it is the next ten years that scientists tell us matter most in our fight against catastrophic climate change, and in protecting the one million species currently threatened with extinction. Reviving hundreds of millions of hectares across terrestrial and marine ecosystems is a daunting task. It cannot be met by any one entity alone.
For the next ten years, every action matters. Every single day.”
We’re honoured to be included in a list of organisations from across the world – but what changes from here for RTNR? The answer is: not much. We want to maintain focus on the diverse yet compromised ecosystems across the Northern Rivers region on Bundjalung, Yaegl, Githabul and Gumbaynggirr Country. There’s lots of work to do.
You can find about more about the Restoration Decade by heading to the website. The RTNR logo will soon feature in the ‘Actor’ category on the Restoration Decade’s Digital Hub.
We’d like to say a special thanks to Queen Safari Kwindja who first initiated this turn of events when she contacted us all the way from Nairobi, Kenya! 🇰🇪
