On Saturday 10 April we ran our first plant ID session and rainforest walk at Booyong Flora Reserve with Jake Lennon.

It’s hard to find people that love the Big Scrub subtropical rainforest more than Jake and he shared his love of all things rainforest with our sold out (but small) crowd.

We learnt about rainforest species such as White Booyong, Strangler Figs, Walking Stick palms and Giant Water Gums. After a couple of hours of information and stories about the rainforest, the group shared a cuppa, some biccies and great conversation before everyone went their separate ways.

Big thanks to Jake and also a big thanks to the people involved in securing this land as a reserve in the 1930s, to the members of Big Scrub Landcare who’ve spent countless hours removing weeds, and most importantly to the generations of Bundjalung people who have cared for and thrived in this land for thousands of years.

If you missed out, don’t worry. There’ll be more of these events popping up throughout the year so keep an eye on our website and Instagram for more information.

Until then, don’t forget to look up.
